  1. Russia 1917 November 21-22, 2013 Objective: Students will examine the events that took place in Russia during 1917 through text, video and timeline. No Warm-Up. Homework: On separate paper, research and write 10 facts about one event/person from 1917 Russia. Choose this event/person from today’s text.

  2. The Russia Revolution

  3. Romanov Dynasty (1613-1917) • The Romanov family rules as an absolute monarchy headed by Czar Nicholas II and his wife, Alexandra.

  4. The March Revolution • Czar Nicholas II is forced to abdicate and a provisional government is established. • The new government plans reforms and the establishment of a democracy and constitution.

  5. However, there is much unrest due to: • 1. Heavy losses during World War I • 2. Harsh working conditions and low wages • 3. High cost and rationing of food • 4. Distant, ineffective rulers

  6. The November Revolution • Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks overthrow the new provisional government, sign a peace treaty with Germany, execute the royal family. • Russia is now the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republic) aka the Soviet Union.
