Situation • Building a new Windows domain for DESY with new servers brings also the chance to consolidate the hardware and look for good management options • 2002/2003 investments in HP ProLiant server- and storage hardware (both sites) : • 3 ProLiant DL380G3 - domain controller • 4 ProLiant DL360G2 - application server • 2 ProLiant DL380 – packaged cluster with storage • 4 ProLiant BL20pG2 - file server cluster ( dual XEON CPU blade server ) • 2 MSA1000 storage systems with FC SAN connectivity • (together 7 TB file store) • 3 ProLiant DL380G2 - mailsweeper • 5 ProLiant DL360G2 - SAP server • 2 ProLiant ML370 – mail cluster with storage HEPiX-HEPNT, Vancouver 10/22/2003
Centralized server hardware management • Installation of HP management agents on all suitable server systems • Installation of „Insight Manager 7 SP2“ on a server as central console with integration of • „System Management Homepage“ • „Array Configuration Utility“ - ACU • remote management with „Remote Insight Lights-Out“ or „Integrated Lights-Out“ hardware • system software and firmware upgrades with „Version Control Repository Manager“ HEPiX-HEPNT, Vancouver 10/22/2003
Insight Manager 7 SP2 • Automatically discovers, identifies and manages ProLiant servers and act as the central launching point for other management software products • Centralized view of potential and actual problems before they result in unplanned server downtime • Isolate and rapidly recover from faults using management agents and Insight Lights-Out technology • Hierarchical views to track systems at group level HEPiX-HEPNT, Vancouver 10/22/2003
Insight Manager 7 SP2 (II) • Helpful tool for server asset management • inventory reports helps if there any memory, processor and disk upgrades or other hardware changes • export reports in CSV format for easy import in central reporting tools • Reduction in time consuming • diagnose server faults from remote locations through a web browser • isolate servers running out-of-date BIOS, driver and agents and update them from central desk HEPiX-HEPNT, Vancouver 10/22/2003
Insight Manager 7 SP2 (III) • Quickly setup and ease of use • integrated MSDE installation or SQL-server based repository • setup of the management server in less then an hour • delete events in database directly from an actions menue in IM 7 SP2 • control of database size HEPiX-HEPNT, Vancouver 10/22/2003
