  1. Equity Services Council Base Funding Request for FY 2014-2017 Presented By: VP Equity and Community Affairs Bryan Elliott, Advisor Leah Shelton, and the Students of the Equity Services Council

Mission Statement We, the Equity and Services Council: represent student diversity interests, needs, and welfare within the University; supplement and complement formal education on the Central Washington University campus; maintain appreciation and understanding of diverse social and cultural heritage; promote and coordinate the celebration of diversity; educate the associated students on issues affecting student equity; and establish, promote and implement community service programs beneficial to the entire associated student body.

Members The ESC is made up of eight active student organizations : (ABLE) : Access, Belonging, Learning and Equality (BSU) Black Student Union (EQuAl) Equality Through Queers and Allies (FASA) Filipino American Student Organization (FGSO) First Generation Student Organization (MEChA)Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (NASA) Native American Student Organization (VIP) Violence Intervention and Prevention Three more organizations which may seek re-recognition: (JSO) Jewish Student Organization (NTSO) Nontraditional Student Organization (SVOC) Student Veterans of Central

  4. What does it all mean? -The ESC is entirely student focused. (All funding either provides student services, learning opportunities, or pays student salaries) -The ESC provides a voice and sense of inclusiveness for historically underrepresented groups -The ESC funds events and activities that are open to all students across the University -The ESC promotes a culture of diversity and tolerance across our campus

The Strategic Plan Section 2 of the Strategic Plan states: “Changing demographic trends in the United States and the increasing globalization of economic, political, and social systems, demand that students be prepared for working in a world in which diversity is the norm.” The Mission and Activities of the Equity Services Council are vital to ensuring the success of CWU’s strategic plan.

  6. Student Success The ESC provides a valuable retention tool for the Universityby providing students from underrepresented groups with a sense of: -Community -Inclusiveness -Representation This is all a vital component of ensuring student success at Central

  7. FY 2014-2017 Request Total amount requested FY 14-17: $53,153 per year

  9. Difference in Funding Request The ESC is requesting $2250 more than it did for FY 2010-2013. The reasons for this are as follows: -$3900 increase for student pay and benefits -$1300 increase for food for the purpose of funding two new graduation banquets; -$350 increase for equipment -$200 increase for graphics and printing We recognize that S&A funds are not unlimited and have therefore made cuts to certain areas of our budget such as; -$2000 cut from programs -$900 cut from travel -$600 cut from membership and registration
