Turn in Homework – p 64 and discuss The unit 2 timeline is on the website and the vocabulary is due Tuesday, 9/10. What a Polynomial is and what a polynomial isn’t! How to graph a polynomial using a table of values and translation. Homework p P69 #1-3, p 74 #2-20 even M3 / Agenda for today
A polynomial is the sum of monomials, the exponents are whole numbers (1, 2, 3, …) and the coefficients are real numbers (no imaginary #’s with i’s). The degree of a polynomial function is the exponent in the term where the variable is raised to the greatest power. The leading coefficient is the coefficient in the term of a polynomial function that has the greatest exponent. A Polynomial function is in standard form if its terms are written in descending order of exponents from left to right. Examples p 67 Guided practice #1-3 2.1 / EQ: What is/is not a polynomial function?
Homework: Due today: P 133 Graphing calculator exploration. Answer each question thoroughly. What outcomes do you want in the course? What are you willing to invest in the course?
1. What are the algebraic steps to determine if the graph of a relation is symmetrical to the origin, the axes or the lines y = x or y = -x? 2. How do we classify functions as even or odd? Essential Questions
