  1. Welcome Please pick up a curriculum overview from the stage. Please write your child’s name on any sign in sheet.

  3. Our approach to teaching • We work in partnership with parents • We are all on the same side and want the best for your children. Please come and speak to us at any time • We have high expectations as we know what the children can achieve

  4. Daily Timetable Break time is 10:50 – 11:10 Upper School lunch is 1:00 – 1:45 Please eat a good breakfast and bring a substantial snack! Reminder: No nut products please

  5. Uniform/PE kits The adults have noticed how smart the year group are looking! Just a reminder: no leggings please. We do have PE outside this term so please bring trainers to change into and warmer clothes as the weather cools.

  6. PE Each class has a martial arts lesson every Tuesday. Lacrosse lessons take place outdoors, so please bring the appropriate kit.

  7. Reading and Own Learning Children are expected to read 3 times a week. Reading records are collected on Wednesdays. Reading needs a parent signature. Own Learning is given out each Friday and collected the following Friday. It is also available to view on the school website.

  8. Trips/Visits We will hopefully be going on some trips this year. We will let you know in plenty of time when, where and any costs. We already have a few trips booked, including going to the University and Ufton Court! In June, year 5 take part in Inspire Week. This is where we spend a week learning about different jobs, thinking about what we would like to do when we are older.

  9. Sharing Assemblies We would love to see you at our sharing assemblies, where the children will be able to share their work with other children in the school and their parents. Each class will have one sharing assembly a year:Miss Pritchard’s class – Friday 11th October Miss Mitchell’s class – Friday 24th April Miss Smith’s class – Friday 5th June

  10. Helping at home There are lots of different ways you can get involved in your child’s learning: - Listening to them read, practising spellings- Helping with their own learning - Encouraging your child to use Bug Club and Times Table Rockstars

  11. Behaviour In year 5, we celebrate positive behaviour in a variety of different ways: • School values stickers - Visits to Mr Marks and Miss Hancock • The Good Book • Postcards sent home • House points • Speaking to you!

  12. Phones - Phones should only come to school if your child walks to and from school alone. Please let the class teacher know if this applies to you. - Phones should be turned off when pupils come through the tunnel. - They should be handed into office and collected again at the end of the day. - Phones are brought into school at own risk.

  13. Whole school events We will be running a variety of events this year for parents; if there are any workshops you would like to see, please let us know. There will also be opportunities for you to join your children in the classroom.
