Services & Activities - July 2014 *Please pre-register for all workshops by calling 456-8400* BUNDLES FOR BABIES (0900-1130):Bundles provides expectant parents with a wealth of information to include financial preparation, car seat safety, nurturing your new bundle of joy, and more in a fun and interactive atmosphere. Those attending will receive a bundle of baby items courtesy of the AFAS. Families First POOL BASH! ACCESS 2010 (1330-1630):Getting started; learning about and managing databases and objects; designing queries and creating reports. CAPSTONE: Mandatory for all retirees and separatees NLT 90 days prior to separation date. This event will validate and verify the service member’s preparedness to be successful following their military service by producing documentation to meet all of their Career Readiness Standards. EXCEL 2010 ADVANCED (0730-1030);What If Analysis, using Sparkline’s, developing and using Pivot Tables/Charts, Conditional Formatting. For families of deployed and EFMP personnel When: Friday, 18 July @1900 Where: North Pool RSVP: By Wednesday, 16 July at 456-8400 EXCEL 2010 COMMON TASKS (1700-2000):Creating basic/complex formulas, working with basic functions; outlining, charting, linking worksheets/workbooks. CAREER ASSESSMENT (0800-1100):This workshop uses the MBTI and interest, values, and skills inventories to provide a basic foundation of self-assessment as it relates to your career choices. Participants will have a better understanding of themselves in order to make career decisions. Tools will be provided for you to research your career options.   OUTLOOK 2010 GETTING TO KNOW (1700-2000):Doing more with Mail; Organizing and Managing Mail; Managing/Collaborating Calendars and more. WORD 2010 MORE WITH WORD (1330-1630):Working with Headers/Footers and Tables; Reviewing Documents; Using a Template; Mail Merge. EXCEPTIONAL FAMILY MEMBER PROGRAM (EFMP) GROUP (1100-1300):Via video/audio or in office. Meeting designed to inform families about services that may be required or needed for exceptional family members. It is also designed to identify gaps in the EFMP system, allow members to address concerns, seek assistance and more. Selling Your Home (1330-1530): This workshop will explain the different aspects of preparing and selling a home. Basic information on marketing your home & the sales process will be provided. Facilitated by NWLRA. TEEN POWERPOINT 2010 (1330-1530):Learn how to use SmartArt graphics, choose themes, work with pictures, apply animation and design slide presentations.. TEEN WORD 2010 (1330-1530):Learn everyday commands, tips and tricks, Quick Styles, Word Options and more. FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOP (1300-1600):This class leads participants to gain an understanding of the Federal employment process and information about the Federal Resume such as format, content and KSAs. Participants will receive hands-on experience in finding key words, writing KSAs and using usajobs.gov. Special Events for July Time Management (1000-1100):This class provides tools to assist in better management of time and workloads. The class offers a better understanding of time, knowledge of the three basic time management strategies, the importance of proper planning, awareness of individual time types, and common time wasters. JOB FAIR: PREPARING FOR IT AND GETTING THE MOST OUT OF IT: (1600-1730):Learn how to work a job fair to your benefit, plus some do’s and don’ts. AF 101 for Spouses (1800-2100):This spouse orientation program is a great opportunity to increase knowledge of the AF mission, customs, traditions, protocols and available programs/services in a fun relaxed atmosphere. Make new friends while learning more about Air Force life. PRE-SEPARATION BRIEFING (0800 or 1300): Mandatory briefing for everyone separating from the military. Advise and present information on the services and resources available. This will assist individuals in making informed decisions about the choices open to members and their families. PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKING 101 (0900-1030):This workshop is designed as an initial course to help you job search & connect with potential employers via social media. Will include hands-on instruction for using LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, & Google+ to get your career search started. Buying a Home (1330-1530): This workshop will familiarize participants with different aspects of buying a home. Basic information on loan types, financing, searching, inspections, and other costs associated with buying a home will be provided. Facilitated by the NWLRA. Discussing Differences & Decisions (1700-1800):This 45-minute workshop utilizes a personality type indicator and an action strategy to assist with effective communication and decision making. READINESS BRIEFING (0800-1000):Whether military members are scheduled to deploy or re-deploy, it is vital to have personal and family affairs in order. These briefings will provide information and support during all phases of deployment. Both briefings are mandatory for all active duty members deploying and/or returning from a deployment. We encourage spouses, significant others and family members to attend.   Basic Investing (1700-1800): Learn the difference between savings & investing, understand asset classes, types of risks and how they relate to your situation of “suitability” issues, the significance of compounding and why starting young matters; the pros and cons of product choice and types of accounts. Bustin’ out of the Barracks (1300-1430):This workshop is designed to assist members currently living in the dorms, to take charge of transitioning into the local community. Topics will include: how to search for apartments/housing, roommate selection, budgeting, saving, and managing/reducing debt. Talking Money with My Honey (1700-1800): This workshop will provide you with tools to effectively discuss finances with your spouse or significant other. Career Technical Track (0800-1600):This 2-day workshop is designed to assist you in defining technical career goals, identifying required credentials, finding career technical training opportunities, identifying local Veteran resources and how to best utilize your VA education benefits. RESUME WORKSHOP (0800-1100):One of the most important and intimidating steps in the job search process is writing a solid resume that gets the attention you need. An effective resume opens the door to your next career opportunity. This course presents information to assist you with developing a resume and cover letter to best represent your skills and qualifications. GI Bill BRIEFING (0900-1000):This 1-hour workshop is facilitated by Veterans Administration Representatives. It is designed to inform military members about the basic details of the Post-9/11 Educational Benefits. RIGHT START (0730-1100):This program is facilitated by the A&FRC staff. It brings together various base and community speakers to give our new arrivals an overview of the base and local community programs, services, history, recreational and cultural opportunities. Spouses are encouraged to attend. Key Spouse Meeting (0900 & 1800):Brings unit key spouses together to network peer-to-peer, pass on lessons learned and receive updates from the A&FRC on deployment/reunion services and benefits for deployed personnel and their families. SPOUSE REUNION & REINTEGRATION:Spouse reunion and reintegration briefings are given on a one-on-one basis. Drop by the A&FRC during normal operating hours. CAMP BRIGHT MINDS Scholarships are now available for Camp Bright Minds for EFMP family members. When: Saturday, 26 Jul @ 1000 Where: Sci-Port; 8020 Clyde Fant Pkwy, Shreveport RSVP NLT 22 Jul @456-8400 Preparing Kids to Stay Home Alone: This workshop helps to prepare responsible children to stay home alone. If your child will be home alone before or after school during the 2014-2015 school year, this parent-child interactive workshop is for you. This workshop is for children between the ages of 10-16. A parent must attend with the child. TAP SEMINAR (0800-1600):This mandatory 5- day program is for those who are preparing to retire or separate. Retirees can participate as soon as 24 months prior to retirement and separatees 12 months prior to separation. Spouses and/or significant others are encouraged to attend on a space-available basis.
