Born on June 22, 1897 in Breslau in Silesia • 1915 he volunteered for the German army in World War I • 1917 suffered a nervous breakdown and lost his job • The same year, Elias began studying philosophy, psychology and medicine at the University of Breslau • until 1925, Elias was involved in the German Zionist movement • 1925 moved to Heidelberg and followed Karl Mannheim to become his assistant at the University of Frankfurt Elias’ Life
