When a negative word precedes the verb, “no” is not used. No estudia nadie. No one studies. Nadie estudia. No one studies.

4. Pay particular attention to or watch out for.... The adjectives alguno and ninguno shorten to algún and ningún in front of a masc. singular noun. The plural forms-ningunos and ningunas are rarely used. No hay ningún libro en mi cuarto. There is not one book in my room.
