FLOSSING • AFTER COMPLETING THIS SLIDE SHOW YOU WILL PRACTICE FLOSSING YOUR OWN TEETH UNTIL PROFICIENT
SUPPLIES THE SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED ARE AS FOLLOWS: • MIRROR • FLOSS
STEP ONE • CUT A PIECE OF FLOSS ABOUT 18 INCHES LONG
STEP TWO • WRAP THE EXCESS FLOSS AROUND THE MIDDLE FINGERS OF BOTH HANDS, LEAVING ABOUT 2-3 INCHES OF WORKING SPACE EXPOSED
STEP THREE STRETCH THE FLOSS TIGHTLY BETWEEN THE FINGERS, AND USE THE THUMB AND INDEX FINGER TO GUIDE THE FLOSS INTO PLACE
STEP FOUR HOLD THE FLOSS TIGHTLY BETWEEN THE THUMB AND FOREFINGER OF EACH HAND. THESE FINGERS CONTROL THE FLOSS AND THEY SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN ½ INCHES APART
STEP FIVE • STARTING WITH THE UPPER RIGHT HAND QUADRANT, PASS THE FLOSS GENTLY BETWEEN THE TEETH, USING A SAWING MOTION AND GUIDE THE FLOSS TO THE GUMLINE. DO NOT FORCE OR SNAP THE FLOSS PAST THE CONTACT AREA
STEP SIX • CURVE THE FLOSS INTO A C SHAPE AGAINST ONE TOOTH. SLIDE IT GENTLY INTO THE SPACE BETWEEN THE GINGIVA AND THE TOOTH. USE BOTH HANDS TO MOVE THE FLOSS UP AND DOWN ON THE SIDE OF ONE TOOT
STEP SEVEN • REPEAT THESE STEPS ON EACH SIDE OF ALL THE TEETH IN BOTH ARCHES INCLUDING THE POSTERIOR SURFACE OF THE LAST TOOTH IN EACH QUADRANT.
SPECIAL NOTES • AS THE FLOSS BECOMES FRAYED OR SOILED, MOVE A FRESH AREA OF THE FLOSS INTO THE WORKING POSITION
