  2. Supernova: • A supernova is a stellar explosion that creates an extremely luminous object that is initially made of plasma—an ionized form of matter.

  3. Ways of formation: • FROM A MASSIVE STAR (by ceasing to generate energy) • FROM A WHITE DWARF (with another star by accumulating material either through acceleration or through collision)

  4. ROLE of supernova: • To enrich the interstellar medium with heavy elements. • The expanding shock wave from the explosion can trigger the formation of new stars.

  5. Types of supernova: • Type la light curve  • Type lb • Type lc • Type II light curve  • Type IIP • Type IIL
