  2. Introduction EIU DataServices EIU DataServices is a portfolio of dynamic databases covering economic performance and indicators. • One of the oldest BvD software, since 1998. The product is in mature stage and there are not a lot of changes anymore. •BvD & EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit) work together since that time. EIU provides the financial information from strong sources around the world (IMF, World bank, Statistical national offices) and BvD makes and adds the tools which allows users to make and get financial analysis or economic outlook. • Some BvD products take information from EIU Data (e.g. Orbis, Bankscope, Osiris.) • Use by all types of users around the world who needs Macroeconomic information. Coverage EIU DataServices • Mainly macroeconomic information for almost all countries around the world (depends on which module you’re working with, see next slide). • Information are based in relation to countries, regions, business sectors (bank, industry, investment,..) but not on companies. • Weekly a new data feed comes from EIU in order to update the software: Update on live website once a week Update on CD support once a month (CD is sent only to few customers) September 12, 2013

  4. 6 Modules EIU DataServices All provide information through series* but they do not necessarily cover all the same countries and time periods (see the main access page below). • EIU CountryData (Internet and CD) • EIU Market Indicators and Forecasts (Internet and CD), including other sectoral modules as Energy, Financial Services and Technology (only on Internet). • EIU World Investment Service (Internet) • EIU CityData (Internet and CD) • EIU Country Risk (Internet) • EIU Operational Risk (Internet) * See chapter “Series” September 12, 2013

  6. Interface EIU DataServices All modules are more or less similar for making searches. (see next slide to see an example). The main blue menu at the top of page includes three sections: •Select and view data: For making data table and chart according to what kind of information you select (countries, series, periods). There are also reports, outlooks (almost all modules except risk models) and business costs (in world investment module). •Analyse data: For making more detailed analyses based on variables (called “series” in the 1st section). These analysis propose additional features as compare variables each other or filter and display your search with more criteria. •The last section allows you different things: Export the tables and charts Customise your user profile Find more information through the user guide September 12, 2013

  8. “Series” EIU DataServices Information of all modules in EIU Dataservices are based on “series”. A series is a search variable like “GDP” or “Population” • A serie can be found by categories, concept, names or codes. (see the picture on the previous slide). • Complete list of series by modules can be found on intranet (path: Product admin). In those files you will find three colums, which are “Series ID” (named Code on the software), “Short name” and “Long name”. September 12, 2013

  9. EIU DataServices • Transparency of series: Additional information can also be found by clicking on the code in the view table for example such as the long name; the source; the analyst and the last forecasts date (date= date of last revision). September 12, 2013

Some additional features EIU DataServices Although the product is mature we try to enhance it as much as possible when it requested (internal or external requests from “EIU” or clients). • Add-in: Importing data series in your own excel sheet. • Large download (since 2012): Downloading all data in txt files (available for selected clients only) • ESMA-EIU (spring 2013): The European Securities and Markets Authority has approved EIU as a credit rating agency to provide the Sovereign risk rating through the Country risk module.
