Background of UoN Alumni Association • University of Nairobi Alumni Association was launched in February 5, 2005 to play the following roles: Alumni Relations University Advancement Students Mentorship Communications & Industry Linkages University of Nairobi, being the oldest and first University in Kenya established in 1956, has the highest number of Alumni 136,000.

  3. UON Alumni Chapters University of Nairobi has 6 colleges and over 30 schools, institutes, centres and departments specialized in specific discipline. The agenda of Alumni Association is to create an alumni chapter for each discipline. So far we have launched: MBA Chapter Medicine Chapter Veterinary Medicine Chapter Range Management Chapter Journalism Chapter Agriculture Chapter

MBA Alumni Chapter Key objective: to provide a forum through which the alumni of UoN can participate in its governance and develop activities to raise the profile and image of their alma mater Value addition activities: Organizing the annual African International Business and Management [AIBUMA] Conferences in liaison with UoN School of Business Planning development and fundraising for the proposed Alumni Centre Project Facilitating internship for business students Leadership & governance – Leadership & Strategy Shapers initiative Alumni Member recruitment Alumni education during UoN graduation days Creating linkages between MBA graduates, business firms & academia

  8. PROPOSED UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI ALUMNI CENTRE

  9. ALUMNI CENTRE The Alumni Center is estimated to cost Kshs 900 million (US$ 11.2 million) according to the draft design and will take 2-3 years to complete(2013 to 2015). The University of Nairobi Council has donated 2 acre land as their contribution to the Alumni Centre project. The project will be funded by internal sources such as the alumni contributions, outsourced funds from well wishers, friends, corporates, donors and collaborators. We welcome our alumni, corporates and donors to join hands with us as we deliver this US$ 11.2 million World Class Alumni Centre. The Association has set aside Kshs 40 million (US$ 480,000) towards the construction of the Alumni Center.

  10. ENDOWMENT FUND The ultimate goal of the Alumni Association is to build a University Endowment Fund through the income generated by the Alumni Centre. The interest will be used to finance the University’s operations such as research grants, students scholarships, students hostels, lecture theatres, ICT networks, executive education centre, renovating and upgrading the university’s infrastructure.

FUTURE PROSPECTS IN ALUMNI COLLABORATION Chapters to continue fulfilling the mutual roles originally envisaged in the establishment of discipline based Chapters to supplement activities of the umbrella Association Main objective of the Chapters remains to provide a forum through which the alumni of UoN can participate in its governance and develop activities to raise the profile and image of their alma mater Chapters will continue to be a useful catchment for business opportunities and a forum to establish useful linkages with graduates who are managing business in various sectors of the economy Chapters will continue to fulfill their mandate while nurturing their growth through member recruitment and other activities to support the UoN Alumni will continue to share their practical experience with academia to provide the required fusion between theory and practice for students pursuing business studies All UoN graduates should enroll as members in their Chapters and umbrella Association to tap into the benefits of collaboration, networking & shared values
