L’Université européenne de Bretagne • A PRES (Pôle de Recherche et de l’Enseignement Supérieur) created in March 2007 as one of the ‘first wave’ of such special interest areas officially designated by the government • An EPCS (-‘Établissment Public de Coopération Scientifique’ Public Scientific Cooperation Institution) which links together all those working in Brittany’s 21 research establishments • A regional area with an international mission • More than 70,000 students, of whom 2,700 are studying for a doctorate • 13,000 research and development-related jobs, such as researchers and engineers, in Brittany • 4.5% of French civil research workforce
