  1. Music Video PowerPoint By Sam Gocher

  2. AMusic Video could show the artist performing the song in front of a live audience or by itself; alternatively, a music video can also present a story line where certain situations and storytelling takes place. Furthermore, it can also be an experimental exercise where random images are shown to complement the music in a more abstract way. All of these angles constitute the treatment, or concept, of a music video, and overall, the artist, director and record label have to decide which concept they would like to use. • Storyboard: Storyboards allow the director to try different approaches to a scene. Storyboards are also a very efficient communication device between the artist, producers, director and record label, as any of them can put any points or ideas across to make the best music video they possibly can. • Casting: Music videos based on the artist's performance usually don't require actors as the only people on-screen are the band members. There are however, situations where an actor or multiple actors are used to create a narrative, like in Ed Sheeran’s music video of Lego House, it starred Rupert Grint and Ed Sheeran made an appearance nearing the end. • Location: Locations have a huge impact on the final product. They can be either studios, houses, living rooms, offices, stores, warehouses, open fields, etc. Every set where the action is filmed, is a filming location. Some music videos are filmed in multiple locations, for example; Foo Fighters’ – Walk began out in the city and moved into a warehouse. • Editing: Editing is the most important step during the post-production workflow. Without editing, there wouldn't be any cuts and there wouldn't be any video. After this process, the music video is completed and ready to broadcat. How are Music Videos made?

  3. There are five main purposes as to why the artist and record label decide to make a music video: • Simply to sell the song and create reaction so the listener/viewer remembers the song. • So that the listener has a better understanding of the song, its narrative is clearer. • To entertain the viewer, because the artist may have certain skills such as dancing or acting. • To be able to sell it to the viewers, because making a memorable visual for the song increases the chances of selling. • And overall promotion, the artist wants to become more recognised and sell more items, and with a music video they can be played on music channels. What is the Purpose of a Music Video?

  4. John Landis – He is famous for directing Michael Jackson’s Thriller music video, the reason he because so famous for this is because the music video had a complete narrative and narration at parts, the video also broke through the fourth wall in its own narrative. • Marc Klasfield – He is famous for directing Katy Perry’s music video of Last Friday Night. This music video was so good, because, like Thriller, it had a narrative and didn’t have the song in the same fashion as on the album. • Dugan O’Neal – He directed Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know. The reason this was such a good video was because of the on-screen artwork and its simplicity, the video definitely helped its publicity. Famous Music Video Directors.

  5. Some music videos have high budgets, some have low, the highest costing music video of all time was Michael and Janet Jackson’s Scream at $7,000,000, followed by Madonna’s Die Another Day at £6,000,000. Then there are low budgeted music videos such as Foo Fighter’s I’ll Stick Around for just $60,000. Usually the average for mainstream artists’ music videos, the average would be around $500,000. How Much Money is Usually Spent on Music Videos?

  6. The main source of music video viewing that most people know of is YouTube in which the most famous videos can reach up to hundreds of millions of views. Another source is on music channels, but that’s less independent because you can’t decide what music video you want to watch. Another less known option is on the MTV site where you can make a Grooveshark like montage of music videos to view. How do Viewers View Music Videos?
