  3. What They Do • Of the five with Multiple Disabilities two of them work on the Alphabet and three of them work on Phonics. They all work with the same mentor throughout the day. He is a community member and is awesome.

  4. Details of Phonics Group Phonics Group • Works on Sight words • Guided Reading • Understands how to sound out unknown words better • Writing words to practice

  5. Success Stories of the Phonics Group • Before working on Phonics with a mentor each student was unable to read their words on their word ring. After working with their mentor they are all able to read all the words on their word ring. The students are creatures of routine and if the words were out of order they were unable to read them. Now they are able to. This is a great accomplishment for all of them.

  6. Details of Alphabet Group • Works on writing the letters • Works on reciting the alphabet • Works on writing the letters in order • Works on finding the letters in print.

  7. Success Story of the Alphabet Group • Before working with a mentor on the Alphabet, the students were only able to recite some of it. They were unable to write it as well. As of now they are able to recite it and are still working very hard on learning to write it. Just being able to recite it has been a huge accomplishment for them.

  8. Comments of Teachers • “Students love working with their mentor.” • “Students are improving, love it.” • “Thank you for arranging this opportunity to help my students--I really appreciate it. The students that the mentors worked with not only needed the academic attention, but are kids who really don't get as much attention at home as they need. I think it was wonderful that a caring person spent some time with them every week--it helped the kids as people, not just as students!!”
