  4. SHAPE VS. FORM

  5. There are 3 types of shapes: RECTANGULAR FORMS: Most commonly used in our homes. These include squares, rectangles, and cubes. Most rooms follow this form because: The danger is that we use them too much and it can become boring. It is not visually interesting if everything is 90 degree angles. You must use a variety of shapes and forms in design to add interest in the space.

  6. 2. ANGULAR FORMS: Include triangles and pyramids. It is the strongest shape. They are used in modern homes with vaulted ceilings, and in stair cases. They suggest motion, attract and hold attention. Examples: Most sloping roofs, angled walls, window treatments, lamp shades, Christmas trees, and accessories.

CURVED FORMS: Brings to mind things found in nature such as trees, clouds, rocks, flowers etc. • Circles and spheres have unique qualities. • A sense of femininity. • Remind us of motion. • c. Provide great variety. • Examples: Plates, bowls, lamp shades, pillows, tables, chairs, stools, etc.
