Effects of Automobile • California’s love of the automobile changed what America looks like and what America eats • “Circular meccas of neon” were designed to be easily spotted from the road • Arab oil embargo of 1973 was a threat to fast food industry because of gas shortage • Long lines at gas stations • Architecture had to catch the eye of drivers on the road • Bright colors, decorations, costumes
