Starr Student Research Grants • Starr Student Research Grants – research grants for 7th-12th grade students who submit grant proposals. An overwhelming number of past awardees have gone on to win highest honors at regional and state science fairs. • $2000 in individual grants of up to $200 • All students provided feedback on proposals/research design • Awardees invited to present/compete at IAS Annual Meeting
Outstanding Science Student Award (OSSA) • Outstanding Science Student Award –Each IJAS member high school may nominate one or more senior students to receive the Outstanding Science Student (OSSA) award. • One OSSA is awarded to a student in every high school that submits nominations. • The winning student is presented an OSSA metal, engraved with his or her name, and a certificate to be awarded at the school's senior honors assembly
Visiting Scientist Program • Request a visit from an IAS Member who specializes in restoration of Iowa prairies, developing new energy sources, discovering Iowa's geologic past, or another field of science • IAS matches school requests with a IAS member scientists • Scientist’s mileage is paid through the visiting scientist program
IAS Annual Meeting • Iowa Academy of Science Annual Meeting –Starr Grant winners and IJAS member students who win top honors in Iowa's science fairs will be invited to compete for trips and high school scholarships at the IAS Annual Meeting. • IJAS member schools are encouraged to bring a group of students to the Annual Meeting to attend presentations by state and nationally known researchers. • Registration fees for the Annual Meeting are reduced for IJAS member groups
National Youth Science Camp* • Two Iowa High School students are selected to represent Iowa at the NYSC each year. • Students participate in an all expense paid three week science camp in West Virginia *IJAS Membership is NOT required to participate in this opportunity
Membership • IJAS dues of $50 will provide the opportunities above to all the students of a high school or middle school. • Each school receives access to the IJAS Wiki Handbook for a mentor educator and active IJAS students, event calendar, and a membership certificate • A Student may become an individual member for $5
