Future challenges – Competitiveness/Attractiveness Prof. Christophe Clivaz christophe.clivaz@hevs.ch Alpine Space Heading for Excellence St. Johann im Pongau, Austria, 28th June 2007
Challenges • Development of (new) economic activities • “Good” governance and co-operation
Characteristics of mountain regions in Switzerland • More old people • Less working people • Less people with university degree • More secondary homes BUT • There is often more differences between centers and peripherical areas than between mountains regions and non-mountain regions
(New) economic activities? • What about agriculture ? • (New) forms of tourism: agritourism, health tourism, culture tourism, ecotourism… • Water: how to better use this ressource? • Energy: can the Alpine Space be innovative in this sector ? • ICT: a lot of promises, a lot of deceptions, and now ? • How to stop the brain drain ? • How to quit very peripherical areas ?
Governance and co-operation • Co-operation capacities between economic actors (intra and inter-sector) • Public-private Partnership • New models of governance/management (more participation) • Networking of actors / ideas • Co-operation between urban and non urban areas • Co-operation with the metropolitan areas
