edge The line or place where something ends. The ball was on the edge of the table and rolled off.
path A track or way made by footsteps. Stay on the path as you go hiking up the mountain.
shallow Not deep. There was a shallow hole dug to plant the seed.
crater A bowl-shaped impression in the surface. The meteor left a crater in the earth’s surface.
Swamp Azalea A flowering plant that grows near the water. I thought the swamp azaleas were very pretty.
bank The land around a body of water. Stay on the bank of the river so you don’t get wet.
terrapin A kind of turtle. The terrapin snapped at my finger.
squishy Soft and wet like a sponge. Mud is squishy and feels so funny on your bare toes.
mussel A creature that lives in a shell and burrows in the sand or mud of lakes and streams. We plan to eat mussels for dinner.
active Moving around. You are being very active when you do exercise.
scent A smell. I love the scent of flowers.
adult Grown-up. Adults vote for the president of our country.
binoculars A tool used for looking at something that is far away. The spy used binoculars to solve the mystery.
practice To do something many times so you get good at it. Did you practice your math facts?
dangles Hangs loosely while swinging to and fro. Adrian’s tooth dangles because he doesn’t want to pull it.
moss A type of green plant. There is some moss growing on top of the house.
