Montgomery Area School District The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires that all groups of children reach proficiency in reading & mathematics by 2014. “Adequate Yearly Progress” is the minimum level that states, school districts, and schools must achieve each year. Adequate Yearly Progress toward proficiency are addressed via performance, participation and attendance/graduation rate. 1. Performance - Reading - 54% of the Students must score in the proficient or advanced range Mathematics - 45% of the students must score in proficient or advanced range 2. Participation – 95% Students must participate in the assessment 3. Graduation/Attendance – 80% (Graduation) or Growth over the previous year 90% (Attendance) or Growth over previous year For a school to meet AYP, all targets must be met or all subgroups with more than 40 students must meet or exceed the target as well as the participation rate and graduation/attendance. The number of targets may vary from school to school since subgroups with less than 40 students are not factored into AYP. For a district to make AYP, one of the age ranges (3-5, 6-8, or 9-11) must have met AYP.
