The National Capital Consortium Psychiatry Residency

1. Broad and Diverse Training Residents experience a diverse exposure to both military and civilian psychiatric practice. Rotation sites include Walter Reed, Ft Belvior, the Virginia state hospital, Fairfax hospital, Children’s hospital, Kolmacaddictions clinic, Washington VA, and DC’s psychiatric ER. Walter Reed is home to robust inpatient, partial hospitalization, and consult liaison services as well as having one of the nation’s only traumatic brain injury units. Academics opportunities are available through Walter’s collaboration with the Walter Reed Institute of Research and the National Institutes of Health and Mental Health. Emphasis on Psychotherapy In addition to instruction in psychopharmacology, Walter Reed’s program is different than most in the nation as its residents are instructed in a wide range of psychotherapeutic modalities to include psychodynamic, CBT, Family, and Couples/Interpersonal. Opportunities for further training in psychodynamic therapy is available through local organizations such as the Washington Analytic Institute. The National Capital Consortium Psychiatry Residency A fully accredited 4 year residency program centered at the largest military hospital in the military system. Walter Reed is the first destination in the continental United States for caring for the wounded, ill and injured from global conflicts. Live, Learn, and Play in the Nation’s Capital Walter Reed is located in the heart of Bethesda, MD and is minutes away from the nation’s capital, Arlington, Alexandria, the Pentagon, and Baltimore.
