  3. Current situation • Decline in uptake for languages at GCSE and A-Level • Languages are not useful • Languages are only for linguists • Low level of language skills

  4. What employers look for? • 70% value foreign language skills • 38% helpful in building relations with overseas suppliers and customers • 65% are not satisfied with young people’s language skills • 15% looking for graduate with Arabic skills • An increasing need for speakers of Mandarin and Russian
