The beginning • During the early years of the Space Race, success was marked by headline-making "firsts": the first satellite, first robotic spacecraft to the Moon, first man in space, first woman in space, first spacewalk. To the dismay of the United States, each of these early feats was achieved by the Soviet Union. These events triggered a drive to catch up with--and surpass--the Soviets.

  4. 1981 • The first re-usable shuttle,Columbia,was launched

  5. 1957 Soviet satellite , sputnik , became the first manmade object to orbit earth

  6. 1967 • Photograph of moon taken by lunar orbiter

  7. 1974 • A scientist name Goddard patented

  8. 1971 • First space station ,salute(end orbit1973)

  9. 1990 • Hubble telescope launched

  10. 1973 • America launches the space station

  11. 1961 • The Redstone rocket lifted

  12. 1969 Neil Armstrong on the moon

  13. 1995 • Galileo sends back photo and about Jupiter compotation

  14. 1998 • First modules of the international space lunched(2 countries)

  15. 1979 • Skylab shows the image of the sun`s corona

  16. 1926 • Goddard launches the first successful rocket

  17. 1971 • Mariner 9 took of mars

  18. 1973 • First US space station launched (Skylab)

  19. 1954 • Viking spacecraft reached 159 miles above the earth

  20. 1961 • Soviet Yuri Gagarin become the first space traveler

  21. 1944 • V-2 spacecraft left earth atmosphere

  22. 1972 • Apollo 16 takes picture of earth

  23. 1986 • Mir space station launched
