  3. The purpose of this presentation is to provide you with an overview of the rules, expectations, and activities of your fifth graders in both of our classrooms. This is an important, transitional year for your child and if we all work together, all students will reach their highest potential!

  4. Agendas, Behavior, and Recess • Agendas - Agendas are to be initialed by a guardian every night after all homework has been completed. Please check your child’s agenda for completion, highlighted homework assignments, and comments before signing it. • Behavior – Each student will start off the week with three numbers in the top of their agenda. Each time they break a rule or fail to turn in homework, they will be asked to cross off a number. Next to each number we will note which rule was broken. Please initial that you have seen and discussed each number that has been crossed off. If all three numbers are crossed off by the end of the week, they will have an extra assignment over the weekend to reflect on their behavior. You will need to sign this extra assignment. • Students will also cross out a number for misbehaving during fire/tornado drills, assemblies, lunchtime, or at specials classes. • Severe behavior problems (fighting, swearing) will be sent to the office immediately and eliminated from Fun Friday. • Recess- Our 5th graders have a daily recess. Dress accordingly!

  5. Classroom Rules – The Three Hoots! • Be Respectful: - Care for yourself and others (feelings and property). - Speak only when it’s your turn. • Be Responsible: - Stay on task and be an active participant (follow directions the first time, listen to others, pay attention, work quietly, etc.). - Finish and turn in assignments the morning they are due. - Highlight homework daily. - Get your agenda signed and empty your folder daily (checked on Friday). - Follow classroom procedures. • Be Safe: - Walk when you are inside the classroom and hallways. - Protect yourself on the internet.

  6. Homework and Grading Policy Homework: Homework is expected to be turned in the following morning after it has been assigned. We will accept papers one day late, but the highest they can receive on the assignment is a “C” or 75%. Absences are an exception to this rule, however, it is the student’s responsibility to check the agenda or website. All absent work will be available in the “extras” bins in the classroom. Student corrections: On occasion, students will be checking their own work and other classmates’ papers. It is your child’s job to review the incorrect answers the day checked. They should also be writing in the correct answers for reference.
