  3. Research Question • Do students feel that the dress code at Woodland is fair?

  4. Research • To conduct my research about the dress code, I chose to use a survey. • My survey was a stratified study; I divided students based on grade levels and chose a few advisements from each grade to participate. • Overall, I surveyed roughly 300 students from Woodland.

  5. The Survey • Every teacher enforces the dress code. • The punishment for dress code violations is fair. • School uniforms would be a solution to the problem. • I am affected by what other students wear. • The dress code is clearly stated. • The dress code is readily available for students to review. • The dress code is enforced fairly. • The dress code is the same for everyone.

  6. The Survey • Does the dress code affect your clothing purchases? Why or why not? • Do your teachers enforce the dress code? • What is the purpose of the dress code? • Why do you believe WHS has a dress code? • Which parts, if any, of the dress code should be changed? Why? • Is the dress code fair for both boys and girls? Why or why not? • What is a fair punishment for dress code violators?

  7. Analysis The dress code is clearly stated.

  8. Analysis The dress code is the same for everyone.

  9. Analysis Is the dress code fair for both boys and girls? Why or why not? • “Yes” – 30%; “No” – 15% but provided no explanation • 12% of students answered that “boys have less provocative clothing and therefore don’t need as strict of a dress code” or something similar. • 20% of students answered “it’s not fair – boys basically can wear whatever they want while girls have to wear practically uniforms” or something similar. • 23% of students answered differently.

  10. Report • Overall, students understand the dress code. • Students at WHS feel that the dress code is stricter for girls than it is for boys. • Students do not support school uniforms (87%). • The majority of students do not feel that the dress code is enforced by every teacher (i.e. some teachers enforce it, others do not).
