  7. Büdingen -History- • The Frogs „Frääsch“ Count Anton to castle Ysenburg and Büdingen married Elisabeth von Wied. Spending a night in the castle Büdingen, she heard the durable sound of the frogs in the pond. It bothered her and was just too much for her. Therefore, the frogs had to be removed from the pond. The count decided that the frogs in the Seemenbach had to be drowned. She did not hear anything that night and from then on felt at home, so that she became a real Büdingerin. From this time on people from Büdingen have been called ‘Büdinger Frääsch’ (frogs)

  8. Büdingen -History- • Stumbling stones (Stolpersteine) They are a reminder of the victims of the Third Reich. These stones are to be found in front of the houses where the victims used to live. The name of the victims is engraved into the stones. In Büdingen you find about 50 stones. • Wild stone (Wilder Stein) It is a side vent of the Vogelsberg volcano. It also has a geological feature. The wild stone has something to do with the former witch hunt: the women had to confess under embarrassing torture that they have to do something with the devil.

  9. Büdingen -Culture- Museums: • 1950s Museum presents things from the 1950s • Butcher’s Museum insight in the profession of the butcher • Model building Museum: from the paper model up to lifelike ship copies • Heuson Museum has varying exhibitions • Sand roses Museum shows different sand roses

Büdingen -Sights- • Jerusalem gate (Jerusalemer Tor) In the 16th century, the gate guarded the vulnerable western part of the city and is the landmark of Büdingen. • Castle The castle is a moated castle and was built in the 12th century. It is still inhabited. • Church “Marienkirche” It is the main church of the town and originated in 1377. • Historic town hall Marriages take place in it. • “Steinernes Haus” This is the oldest residential building in Büdingen.
