  3. Telling Time • 4 steps • Es la/ Son las • Hour • Minutes • Time of day

  4. 1. Es la/ Son las • Es la • If the time is between 12:31 and 1:30 • Son las • If it is any other time

  5. 2. Hour • If it is on the hour • Use the number for the current hour • Example: 3:00 -> Tres • If it is before the half hour • Use the number for the current hour • Example: 7:15 -> Siete • If it is after the half hour • Round up and use the number for the next hour • Example: 4:45 -> Cinco

  6. 3. Minutes • If it is on the hour • Add “en punto” • If it is before the half hour • Add “y + number of minutes” • If it is after the half hour • Add “menos + the number of minutes until the next hour starts”

  7. 4. Time of day • Add one of the following phrases depending on the time of day: • De la mañana: In the morning • De la tarde: In the afternoon • De la noche: In the evening/ at night

  8. I am going to give you either a digital time or a written time. You will give me the opposite! For example, if I give you numbers  you give me words. If I give you words  You give me numbers! Pizarritas!

Writing • I will be passing out a handout with three different writing prompts. • We will be completing two of the writing prompts today in class and one you can use for extra practice at home. • You will have 10 minutes to write your answer to each question. • After the 10 minutes, we will be grading each other’s writing using the rubric on the back.
