How Will You Be Assessed • This unit will be assessed through an externally set one-hour examination, made up of short answer and extended writing questions. • You must complete the examination under supervision and will not be able to communicate with anybody except an invigilator. • The externally set examination will cover all the learning outcomes of the unit.

Composition of the UK Hospitality Industry: • Hotels (one star to five star, budget hotels, bed and breakfast). • Restaurants (fast food, cafes, coffee shops, mainstream). • Pubs and bars (managed, tenanted or leased, freehouses). • Nightclubs. • Hospitality services (catering managed in-house); contract food service provision (catering outsourced to a contract food service provider). • Membership clubs. • Events management.

  13. Activity… List all the outlets providing hospitality in the local area. Put them into industries within the hospitality industry.

Size of the UK Hospitality Industry: • Numbers employed in the hospitality industry. • Numbers of outlets in industries within the hospitality industry. • Food and drink sales in industries within the hospitality industry. • Number of meals served by industries within the hospitality industry.
