Schedule • 8:00 – 10:00 Reading/Language Arts • 10:00 – 11:00 Math • Recess • 11:40 – 12:25 Specials • 12:35 – 1:05 Lunch • 1:15 – 2:00 Science/Social Studies/Health • PLEASE send a HEALTHY snack daily!! (There are peanut allergies in our room.)
Behavior Plan • $10 to start each 2 week period • Must have at least $8.00 to participate in “Fun Friday” activities • Those that have incomplete work or “Insufficient Funds” will attend Study Hall.
Reading Genres Shift from “Learning to Read” to “Reading to Learn” • Narrative Text • Informational Text • Fiction Text • Poetry • ***Genre Passports
Reading Skills • Comprehension : main idea, inference, use of context clues, drawing conclusions, sequence of events • Fluency : 120 wpm by end of grade 3 • Vocabulary • Guided Reading Level: goal of Level P by end of third grade
Reading Program Components • Guided Reading • “Kidstations” – Structured Activities to reinforce standards learned • Literature Circles • Author Studies • Lexile Levels – read 20 minutes daily in book of appropriate Lexile • **Students must pass the CRCT Reading Test to be promoted to Grade 4.
Writing • 6 +1 Traits of Writing • Writer’s Workshop • Writing Journals • Grammar • Writing effective paragraphs • Cursive handwriting – much will need to be practiced at home.
Math • Place Value to Ten Thousand • Addition/Subtraction Facts!!!! (First 2 months) • Multiplication Facts • Division • Elapsed Time • Counting back change

Homework • Homework should take about 30 minutes every night. • 20 minutes of reading in a book of an appropriate level • Monthly WEBproject (Wonderfully Exciting Books!)
Testing Information • October 5 - 17: CogAtand ITBS • State Writing Assessment • CRCT – April 2012. Students will be tested in Reading, Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. • Students must pass the reading portion to be promoted to grade 4.
How Can Parents Help? • Please check “Take Home” Folder and Agenda each day. • Sign or initial to show homework has been completed. • Use Agenda to write any necessary notes. It will be checked each morning. (e.g.: Transportation changes, misc. information)
