  7. AIS Focus • Strengthening the effectiveness of the Australian Institute of Sport through the adoption of a continuous improvement philosophy; and • Providing innovative and integrated support services at the AIS to enhance athlete and program performance.

  8. Programs The AIS operates from its service hub in Canberra and has training programs operating in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

  9. Programs It offers scholarships annually to about 700 athletes in 35 sports programs covering 26 sports and employs around 75 coaches.

  11. Elite Athlete Pathway Each National Sporting Organisation (NSO) has an elite athlete pathway.

  12. Elite Athlete Pathway The AIS plays one of two roles in the NSOs elite athlete pathway by conducting sports programstargeted at either the: • Elite or senior international programs(20 sports programs) • Pre elite or developmental programs(15 sports programs)

SPD – Key Strategies • Provide integrated services and funding to NSOs and other key stakeholders based on their individual needs, priorities and capacity to contribute to the ASC’s objectives. • Challenge NSOs to achieve agreed higher organisational, membership and athlete performance targets. • Provide national leadership on key issues and challenges within the sport industry. • Demonstrate the social, economic and health benefits of participation in organised sport.
