German Exchange 2013 Programme for both legs of the exchange How to entertain your exchange student Questions?
Staffing Mrs Rose Herr Feser Mr Connolly Frau Steinhardt We are also hosting and staying with our exchange partners, the German staff. We are very grateful for the full support of our Principal, Mr Quinn and also of Mr Crouchley, Exchange Coordinator at Pershore High School.
German visit to St Augustine’s11-16 June Programme decided by Germans. Any changes to timings/ details will be communicated via phone list. All activities are paid for. Please provide packed lunches for guests every day and for all students on Friday 14th. Please collect authorisation for travel on buses as necessary today and please pay for your guest’s bus journeys to and from school. Please let me know in writing if your child is staying at Great Park following our bowling evening.
German visit to St Augustine’s11-16 June Not anticipating any major problems! – long standing link with experienced staff and students have been hand picked - over 50 wanted to participate in this exchange this year. The school mobile phone will be in my possession and will be able to receive calls 24/ 7 during both legs of the exchange, if necessary! The number is on the itinerary. In evenings and at weekend don’t leave all of the organising to mum or dad! Find out what the others are doing and provide the opportunity to meet lots of young people.
German visit to St Augustine’s11-16 June All students travelling to Bad Neustadt should collect their Malvern Guide to help with vocabulary and exchange etiquette. Keep a dictionary to hand and talk slowly and clearly. Offer your guest the chance to phone or email home when they arrive. Phone numbers of all the other exchange students are in the pack this evening. Keep smiling even if your guest looks worried; don’t take it personally. Visitors are in loco parentis – they have been told to abide by house rules. Treat any initial problems firmly and explain what is not allowed in your home if necessary. Please contact Mrs Rose if there are any ongoing concerns.
Our return visit to Bad Neustadt8 -14 July You are ambassadors of our school and our country at all times. Do not dress or behave at any time, or in any way, to give the wrong impression. Please note Lufthansa’s strict baggage allowances. You will be charged excess baggage costs – this is expensive, unnecessary and is to be avoided! 1 piece of hold baggage – max 23kg. 1 piece of hand luggage – max 8 kg (max 55cm x 40cm x 23cm). Ideally a small rucksack or similar. Liquids in hand luggage must total less than 100ml and must be placed in a clear plastic bag bought at airport (£1) to go through security. Please let me know details well in advance if your child needs medication with them in their hand luggage.
Our return visit to Bad Neustadt8 -14 July What to bring: Small present for host family Things to do on journey Clothes for all weathers Comfortable shoes suitable for walking Swimwear, sportswear Pocket money at your discretion – exchange into Euros Malvern Guide Small dictionary Sun cream
Our return visit to Bad Neustadt8 -14 July Remember… Abide by rules of your host family – may have more or less freedom than at home. You are seen as an adult at 16 in Germany – handle yourself in a mature manner. I have never yet had to fly anyone home due to their behaviour and I am sure I will not need to this year! Get involved in family life as much as you can. Look out for each other – this is an adventure made even better by good team spirit. Smile lots, try new things, offer to help, be tolerant and fit in with family.
Our return visit to Bad Neustadt8 -14 July Remember… Telephone numbers of all students will be distributed before departure. It is reasonable to request to phone home once or maybe twice. However, do ask first! Phone staff if you are unwell, worried, there are any misunderstandings etc… Let me know if you go to doctor/ dentist/ hospital. Inform me of any major losses or thefts.
Please see Mr Connolly before you leave… We are here to answer any further questions you may have. Please do contact me if you think of anything you wish to ask following this evening.
Finally… THANK YOU for providing this fantastic opportunity for our students. We hope you all thoroughly enjoy the experience.
