Special Olympics • Sports organization • Mission: provide year round training & competition for athletes • Ages: 8 – senior citizens • Under 5 can train but not compete • Mental retardation • Or closely related developmental disability • Non profit • Goal for events to be free for participants

  5. Special Olympics • Training takes place in local agencies • SRA, group home, school, etc. • Must train 8 weeks before compete • Coachers are trained & certified • Update every 4 years • SO organizes the competitive events • Local, regional, state, national
