Minnesota Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program Healthy Eating Coalition of State Agencies • Established - as a result of the 805 Obesity Grant • Represents - roughly 40 statewide food/nutrition programs • Exist - to reduce duplication, share resources, and support each other in achieving shared outcomes

Minnesota Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program Healthy Eating Coalition of State Agencies Membership • Minnesota Department of Health • Minnesota Department of Education • Minnesota Department of Agriculture • Minnesota Department of Human Services • University of Minnesota – Extension and School of Public Health

  4. Minnesota Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program Healthy Eating Coalition of State Agencies – Year 1 Goals • Collaboratively support MDE in implementing their new Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program • Secure funding to pilot nutrition education and farm to school strategies in FFVP schools

  5. Minnesota Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program Role of HEC Members in the MN FFVP • Fiscal agent for Specialty Crop Block Grant • Hired full time project coordinator to work with 3 pilot school districts • Provided new curriculum called “Go Wild with Fruits and Vegetables http://www.extension.umn.edu/nutrition/GoWild.html

  6. Minnesota Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program Role of HEC Members in the FFVP • Designing evaluation tool to capture best practices in FFVP schools • Telephone survey beginning Fall 2011

  9. Minnesota Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program Role of HEC Members in the FFVP • Promote fruit and vegetable consumption in food support outreach program activities

  10. Minnesota Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program Role of HEC Members in the FFVP • Convenes and facilitates HEC meetings • Will provide incentives for evaluation survey • Coordinating sustainability strategies

  11. Minnesota Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program From this partnership other coordinated efforts have started including: • Statewide Farm to School Leadership Team • Collaborative plans for Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools
