Early Childhood • Born May 8, 1977 in New Hartford, New York • Joe was a gifted musician from a young age • Grew up in his Father’s guitar shop • Received his first guitar at age 4 • Began playing Jimi Henrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan note for note shortly after
The Beginning • At the age of 12 he opened for BB King • At age 14, he met the members of his first music group “Bloodlines” at a Fender guitar event • Berry Oakley, Waylon Krieger, and Erin Davis (Mile Davis’ son) • They released one album which produced two chart singles "Stone Cold Hearted", and "Dixie Peach." • “Bloodlines” was the kick start to a long successful career
Solo Artist • Joe left the “Bloodlines” signing with record label “Premier Artists” • His first solo debut was in 2000, releasing his first solo album, A New Day Yesterday. • By the year 2006, he had produced and released 5 studio albums • His best-selling album was Sloe Gin
Influences • Father was a huge fan of blues music with a variety of records • Mentored by Danny Gatton who taught him the basics of jazz/country, which led him to fuse his own sound of the blues • His music was inspired by British and Irish blues acts • Specific artists who had an influence on his music include: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Paul Kossoff, Eric Johnson, and Peter Green. • Later noted he performed with Eric Clapton in England in 2011.
Style • In Joe’s early stages he mirrored the style of Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray and BB King before developing his own style of blues. • Primary style would be considered Blues Rock, with an eastern influence. • Some songs include instruments such as the bouzouki and the clarinet; just like in the song “Black Lung Heartache” from his album Dust Bowl. • Heavy emphasis on guitar, his favorite guitar would be the 59’ Les Paul Sunburst.
