  2. Genes • Genes play a huge role in a child’s development • They effect the color of your eyes • Determines height and weight, level of intelligence, along with your basic personality

  3. Twins Separated • For example, a couple of twins named Bessie & Jessie • Separated at 8 months due to mothers death • Reunited at age 18 • Both had tuberculosis, similar voices, energy levels administrative talents & decision making talents

  4. Bessie & Jessie Cont’d… • Jessie had a college level education while Bessie had 4 years of high school education • But Bessie scored a higher score on the intelligence quotient testing

  5. Twin Separated Cont’d… • Jack Y. & Oscar S. • Born in Trinidad in 1933; reunited at age 43 • Both wore aviator glasses & blue sport shirt • Dipped buttered toast in coffee

  6. Jack & Oscar Cont’d… • Enjoyed sneezing loudly in elevators to frighten people • Both were impatient & germ phoebes

  7. Intelligence • Intelligence comes from genetics proven by a research done by Dr. Bouchard at the University of Minnesota • In the brain, where you recognize language and the other for conception, the identical twins have 95 to 100%% shared

  8. Intelligence Cont’d… • “So far, a single gene has not been found to specifically code for intelligence, but the evidence does show that inheritance is a factor.” (Dr. Bouchard, University of Minnesota)

  9. Nature Vs. Nurture • Nature plays a huge role as to who you are • For example, if there are two siblings living in the same household it doesn’t mean they are the same way. • Tania- live in the same household but live different ways; 2 siblings

  10. Nature Vs. Nurture Cont’d… • Kapri- lives in the same household but lives different as well; 2 siblings • More abstract things such as intelligence, personality, and sexual orientation are based upon a person’s DNA
