  1. CampusBookCup 2018

  2. What is it? • An annual Campus interschool Reading Competition tradition of 24 years • Year 8 students read texts (books, short stories, poem, film and website) • Students are quizzed in teams on the texts • Students represent class / school in Semi-finals / Grand Final

  3. When is it? • Competition is launched in Week 6 of Term 2 • Heats and Grand Final are held in the lead up and during Book Week 22 – 26 August 2016 (Term 3, Week 5)

  4. What is the aim? • Promote reading • Encourage working in teams • Expose students to a wide variety of fiction / non-fiction / visual texts

  5. What do students need to do? • Form a team of 3 or 4 students from your English class or year level • Borrow and read texts from your class box in the library. • Read/ view as many as possible from the list • Be available to view the DVD in the library early Term 3

  6. How does it work? • Each team member reads as many of the set texts as possible. • Your class teacher can give you the opportunity to meet with other teams to discuss what you are reading. • The team will be asked questions about the story, plot, theme, characters, setting. • As a team you need to decide on the most correct answer. • The teams with the most points go through to the Grand Final.

  7. Winners • The Winning team will each receive a book of choice and Gift Voucher

  8. What is the role of the English teachers? • Encourage Year 8 students to form teams • Teams to choose names • Encourage progress

  9. Celebrations! • Grand Final is followed by lunch • Members of winning teams each receive a $50 Westfield voucher • Photos and article in school newsletter / magazine

  10. Book Week • Heats - Week 3 Term 3 • Semi-finals - Week 4 Term 3 • Tristan Banckspresentation Thursday June 28th 2018 for all year 8 students in DRMC • Top 4 teams from across your year level will then compete in the Cross Campus Book Cup Grand Final Friday 25 August 2017.

  11. Conclusion • Campus Book Cup is a 24 year old tradition • Excellent way to : * foster Campus relations * promote the enjoyment of reading * build team relationships

The family are in hiding in their grandfather's old hut in the woods. Ben uses his detective skills to figure out what's going on. The story explores the idea of two wolves, one good, one bad, struggling inside Ben, the winner being the one he feeds. Will he go the way of his father and grandfather or will he do the right thing? Creative Challenge YOUR CHALLENGE: Within your Book Cup team plan and design your own TREASURE MAP based on the short story Treasure Island On your map list 5 treasures that you think were on that island which Jim was in search of. Include 2 other surprising items of your choice Give your treasure island a name Provide some clues to the treasure  Create a poem based around the theme of Book Week: Find your Treasure. You may like to think about the varying characters, setting and plot from any of the stories you have read from the Book Cup list this year.
