FIRST The National Host Organization • FIRST: For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology • Challenges teams from across the Country to build a robot over six weeks from a standard "kit of parts" and a common set of rules • $10 million in scholarships made available to student participants

  4. Our Team • 20 High School students • Three mentors • One box of robot parts • A Competition challenge • And you, Our Sponsor Our 1st parts kit –with no assembly instructions

  5. A Box With No Instructions So how do you build a robot? • What we did is split up into groups and each came up with different ways of dealing with the obstacles • We then divided into teams to turn these ideas into reality • And the light came on

Our 1st Competition Duluth Georgia Regional Competition March 12-14, 2008 • Our 1st Competition • 22 out of 45 teams • One of 4 teams invited to participate at the November 20th Rockwell vendor conference in Nashville • 2009 Goal a top 10 finisher • Knoxville Catholic High School • Robotichauns

  7. Lessons Learned From Competition • Recruit sponsors and register early • Dedicate time to robot design before digging into the parts kit • Keep it simple
