  1. “Outline how the function of genes, mitosis, cell differentiation, cell division and specialisation assist in the maintenance of health”

  2. Maintenance of Health If you feel terrible because you get a bad night sleep, or have a fight with your friend, does that mean you have poor health??? No. Despite you not feeling great, your body continues to function regularly and you can maintain optimal health due to the internal biological processes that occur in your body. These include: 1. The function of your genes 2. The process of mitosis 3. Cell differentiation and specialisation

  3. Quick Questions... Do you, or do you have friends who get sick more often than others? Do your, or do you have friends whose cuts heal really quickly or slowly compared to others? Do you, or do you have friends who bruise really easily? (Or did you ever notice how older people always have cuts, or their cuts would heal much more slowly?)

  4. Why??? Some people have a very strong immune system (cell differentiation and specialisation) But this is not the only reason... Our health is maintained through a number of processes:

  5. How Your Body Maintains Health Mitosis: Our bodies ability to produce identical daughter cells Gene function: Our genes ability to produce certain proteins essential for cellular processes, and Our bodies having different types of cells that function in different ways (cell differentiation and specialisation) Some people will have a greater, or poorer ability to do some, or all of these things than others...

  6. What is Cell Differentiation and Cell Specialisation? Example... We learnt last year that our body has different types of white blood cells. All of these cells reproduce the same way... by mitosis. but they have different functions... How is this possible? But your body (specialises and differentiates), and only some of these cells will produce antibodies necessary for an immune response. Some will have other functions.
