  2. Ethical Conduct • All Coaches, Department Staff & Student-Athletes • Act with Honesty & Sportsmanship • Must provide complete & accurate information to the NCAA & ND regarding any ongoing or pending investigations of possible violations of NCAA rules Intern Rules Education

Ethical Conduct Gambling • Solicit/Accept a bet on any professional or collegiate team (for an item of tangible value) • Provide inside information • Participate in any gambling activity on NCAA sponsored collegiate or professional sports • Includes bracket pools & fantasy leagues if BOTH an entry fee is required and a prize is awarded Intern Rules Education

Academic Fraud An NCAA Violation can occur if: • An institutional staff member (coach, professor, tutor, teaching assistant) knowingly arranges fraudulent academic credit or false transcripts for an enrolled student-athlete • A student-athlete, acting alone or with others, knowingly arranges fraudulent academic credit or false transcripts • If a student-athlete commits an academic offense (cheating, plagiarism) with no involvement of an institutional staff member & the academic offense results in an erroneous declaration of eligibility & the student-athlete subsequently competes for the institution Intern Rules Education

Extra Benefits • A student-athlete, their family and friends, may not accept a benefit from an employee of Notre Dame or a representative of the University’s athletics interests (e.g., alumnus, season-ticket holder, donor) • If it is not available to the Notre Dame student body or the general public – it is an extra benefit Intern Rules Education

  6. Extra Benefits • Money, gifts, clothing, tickets for entertainment, haircut, use of a car • Free or reduced-cost room or board anywhere (SB, hometown) • Free or reduced-cost merchandise or services • Use of Athletics Department copy/fax machines, long distance telephone service, free use of a cell phone • Special discount or credit on the purchase of an airline ticket • Loan of money or co-signing of a note to arrange for a loan • Receipt of complimentary admissions for your family or friends other than your comps or those of a teammate • Sale or trade of comps for merchandise, services or debt repayment • Sale or trade of any items received for participation in athletics (shoes, uniform, awards) Intern Rules Education

  7. Boosters • What can a representative of the University’s athletics interests do for a current student-athlete? • Occasional home or on-campus meal • Legitimate employment opportunity NOTHING ELSE! Intern Rules Education

  8. Recruiting: Official Visits None of the following may occur: • In-person contact with a representative of athletics interests, former athletes (on or off campus) – be safe & do not recruit • Underage drinking • Participation in required or arranged physical workouts involving any sport for which the prospect is being recruited • Receipt of free or reduced-cost athletic gear • Access to an automobile for use by the prospect or student host • Personalized recruiting aids (e.g., personalized jerseys, audio/video scoreboard presentations, or game-day simulations) Intern Rules Education

Countable Hours IN-SEASON • 20 hours per week & max 4 hours per day • 1 required day off per week • No practice activities permitted after competition OUT-OF-SEASON During the academic year • 8 hours per week & max 4 hours per day • 2 required days off per week • Skill instruction limited to 2 of the 8 hours/week Weekly hour limitations don’t include voluntary activities Without coaching staff supervision No limitation during preseason practice prior to 1st day of class or scheduled competition (whichever is earlier) No limitations during official vacation periods Fall Break, Christmas Break, Spring Break Intern Rules Education

Countable Hours Countable Non-Countable • Practice – 4 hrs per day • Ath meetings with a coach initiated by a coach • Competition - counts as 3 hours • Required weight training • Discussion/review of film • Set-up of offensive/defensive alignments • Compliance meetings • Meetings with a coach initiated by SA • Study hall, tutoring • Voluntary weight training not conducted by staff • Team travel • Training room activities • Voluntary sport activities (no coach, no attendance) Intern Rules Education

Coaching Limits 11.7.1.1.1.1.1 • A noncoaching staff member with sport-specific responsibilities (e.g., director of operations, administrative assistant) may participate in organized activities involving only the coaching staff or may perform administrative duties (e.g., attend meetings involving coaching activities, analyze video of the institution's or an opponent's team, track statistics during practice or competition).  However, such an individual is prohibited from participating in instructional activities with student-athletes and any on-court or on-field activities (e.g., assist with drills, throw batting practice), and is prohibited from participating with or observing student-athletes in the staff member's sport who are engaged in nonorganized voluntary athletically related activities (e.g., pick-up games). (Adopted:  1/16/10) Intern Rules Education

Coaching Limits Permissible Activities • Track stats • Run practice clock • Sit on bench/sideline • Arrange travel • Organize film exchange • Assign equipment • Analyze film • Own institution • Opponents Impermissible Activities • Coaching! • Participation in practice drills • Instruction to SAs • Conduct workouts • Analyze/evaluate film of prospects • In-person scouting of opponents • Off-campus recruiting Intern Rules Education

Coaching Limits 13.1.2.3 (b) A noncoaching staff member with sport-specific responsibilities (except a staff member who only performs clerical duties) shall not attend an on- or off-campus athletics event in the staff member's sport that involves prospective student-athletes (e.g., high school contest, noninstitutional sports camp) unless the staff member is an immediate family member or legal guardian of a participant in the activity.  A staff member who is an immediate family member or legal guardian of a participant may attend such an event, subject to the following conditions:  • Attendance shall not be for evaluation purposes (the staff member shall not provide information related to the performance of a prospective student-athlete back to the institution's coaching staff); and • The staff member shall not have direct contact with a prospective student-athlete or a prospective student-athlete's parent (or legal guardian) or coach (other than the immediate family member, if applicable) participating in the activity.   14. Donation Requests Should you be asked to autograph an item for a promotional or fundraising activity, you may do so only if: • Prior written approval from the Athletic Compliance Office is obtained • The item must benefit an institutional, charitable, educational, or non-profit organization Intern Rules Education
