  2. Injury and Death • Slips, Trips and Falls can cause injury, lost work time and death. • OSHA Fall Protection requirements exist at: • Subpart D-Walking and Working Surfaces • Subpart F-Powered Platforms, Manlifts and Vehicle-Mounted Work Platforms • Subpart R-Special Industries

  3. What happens when you slip? • Slips can be caused by wet surfaces, spills, or weather hazards like ice and snow. • Clean up spills right away • Don’t let grease accumulate • Add traction for wet floors • Practice safe walking skills • Take short steps-center of balance under you • Move slowly

  4. What happens when your trip? • Your foot hits an object and moving momentum throws you off balance. • Eliminate loose footing hazards • Keep cords out of walkways • Keep walkways clear of objects or debris • Keep areas well lit • Use handrails and scan path

  5. What happens when you fall? • Falls occur when you move too far off your center of balance. • Use a proper ladder and check its condition before climbing, secure its position • You need both hands for climbing-hoist materials • Scaffolds can be dangerous—check 29 CFR 1910.28 • Fall protection can be prevention of falls or arresting a worker who falls—learn employer’s fall protection system
