Objectives • Know what freely available resources the Health Information Resources website offers including guidelines, systematic reviews, e-journals and patient information • Know how to look for evidence using the NHS Evidence and Cochrane Library • Use other health subject sites such as Pubget, Bandolier etc.
NHS Evidence Health Information formerly National Library for Health • A gateway to information for healthcare staff • Contains specialist collections that act as subject gateways for specific areas [Ended] • Contains a number of databases, e-journals, e-books and other information resources • Many resources are protected by Athens www.library.nhs.uk
Athens accounts • Some resources require an NHS Athens account • With an Athens account you can access resources from any PC • You can register online (using an NHS PC is best)

Pubget • Pubget is a search engine that works like Google Scholar and brings PDFs on your search. Instead of providing a results list of citations, Pubget provides the results list with immediate access to the article http://pubget.com/

Evaluating Information • Authority – who wrote the page? Who does the site belong to? • Audience – who is site aimed at? What does it aim to do? • Accuracy – is the content based on factual evidence or is it opinion? • Currency – how up to date is the information?
