  4. Diet • Their mother teaches their babies how to collect food. • They eat seeds, fruit, nuts, corn, insects, bird eggs, mushrooms, acorns. • They have very sharp teeth to break nuts with.

  5. Behaviors • Chipmunks lose energy many ways. • They find a hole and go in it or hide in trees or leaves. • They make underground burrows and they are excellent climbers. • They climb trees to collect acorns and nuts.

  6. Physical Features • Chipmunks have fur so they can be warm in the winter. • Chipmunks have big ears to hear danger. • They are small so they can hide quickly. • They have pointy faces with eyes on each side to see danger coming. • Chipmunks have a black stripe to bend into their habitat.

  7. Interesting Facts • When they hibernate for the winter. They save up seven liters of food. • Chipmunks often stop and look around checking for food. • In the fall chipmunks store seeds and acorns underground. • The chipmunk carries their food in their cheeks.
