  3. Mission History The San Luis Rey Mission celebrated its 219th aniversary in 2017, being formally dedicated June 13, 1798. The Native Americans who lived in this area ,now known as Oceanside and Shoshone tribe.

  4. The mission was found by Fathers Lausen under the leadership of fray Junipero Serra.It was known as King Of The Missions because of the amount of land the occupied. Mission Life

  5. San Luis Rey harvested over 411,000 bushels of grain and assemble during the period 1789-1832. Wheat, barley, corn and beans were the main early crops. Mission Agrtculture

  6. Mission Tradition The Blessing of the Animals is a traditional event for the Mission Fiestas, or birthday celebrations. Animals from goldfish to horses are brought to the mission to be blessed by the padres. Franciscans and St. Francis was known for his close tie with animals.

  7. The Mission was founded by Fathers Lasuen, Santiago and Peyri, under the leadership of Fray Junipero Serra. The task of building the mission was delegated to Fr. Antonio Peyri. People of the Mission
