  2. At the center of our solar system is the sun.

  3. Nine planets orbit the sun.

  4. The first four planets closest to the sun are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. These four are known as the inner planets. A belt of asteroids lies between the inner planets and the five outer planets. The outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

  5. High powered telescopes, like the Hubble Space Telescope, help scientists continue to find out more about our solar system.
