  4. Introduction to this E-learning In this E-learning course I am going to talk about a technology that enables devices to communicate with each other without cables ,which is the Bluetooth. I will present the definition of Bluetooth and where this name came from. Also, I will provide the E-learners with the advantages and disadvantages of the Bluetooth. In addition, I will introduce you with the security and the future of this great technology and more and more. To get more information about Bluetooth ,visit the websites provided in the reference page and I am sure you will have a complete picture about Bluetooth.

  5. What is Bluetooth??? Bluetoothis a specification for the use of low-power radio communications to wirelessly link phones, computers and other network devices over short distances.

  6. History of Bluetooth The name Bluetooth is borrowed from Harald Bluetooth, a king in Denmark more than 1,000 years ago , who united dissonant Danish tribes into a single kingdom. The implication is that Bluetooth does the same with communications protocols, uniting them into one universal standard. The logo Bluetooth unites the Runic alphabetic characters "H", which looks similar to an asterisk , and a "B", which are the initials for Harald Bluetooth .

  7. First company initiated astudy about Bluetooth: The first company initiated a study to investigate the feasibility of a low-power low-cost radio interface between mobile phones and their accessories was Ericsson Mobile Communications. Starting in 1994 the probed ways of linking computers and mobile phones wirelessly. In 1998, Lund Switzerland saw the formation of like minded companies who united into an association called the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). These companies were Ericsson, IBM, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, Intel, Toshiba, and Agere.

  9. How Bluetooth Communicateswithother Bluetooth Devices????((Visually))

  10. How Bluetooth communicates with other Bluetooth devices: ((explanation)) Bluetooth technology is similar to wireless network technology. For instance, two devices in the vicinity of one another can communicate with one another at high speeds. Bluetooth 1.0 can transfer data at 1 mbps and Bluetooth 2.0 can transfer data at 3 mbps. It should be noted that Bluetooth 2.0 is backward compatible and works with 1.0. In addition Bluetooth does something else that makes this technology extremely attractive. Bluetooth technology does not need any human intervention to communicate. This means that when two Bluetooth devices come into the same vicinity, they both have the ability to recognize one another and to start communicating (sending data) with each other without any human intervention.

  11. 10 Advantages of Bluetooth 1- Wireless 2- inexpensive 3- automatic 4- The technology stays 5- Standardized protocol 6- Low interference 7- Low energy consumption 8- Sharing voice and data 9- Instant PAN (Personal Area Network) 10- Upgradeable

  12. Disadvantages of Bluetooth 1- Battery Use: You're using up more battery power when you leave your Bluetooth enabled on your phone all day. To disregard all this, the best thing that you can do is disable it once you are completed with the transfer. It only takes a few seconds to enable and disable so it wouldn't hurt to disable it once you are done using it. 2-Bluetooth Internet: Throughout all devices, when using Bluetooth internet, the connection can sometimes run very slow so Bluetooth internet is not highly suggested for all cases. 3- Data rate and security: Infrared can have data rates of up to 4 MBps, which provides very fast rates for data transfer, while Bluetooth only offers 1 MBps.

  13. Devices using Bluetooth

  14. Using Bluetooth to fight crimes: This technology has been used successfully in other force areas to provide vital information to police, especially when searching for vulnerable children or adults missing from home or seeking witnesses for crimes within a particular area. Officers plan to send out messages to warn motorists to step up their car security if there has been a spate of thefts, circulate pictures of missing people and put out witness appeals for high profile crimes. so it could help catch criminals and prevent crime, saving residents and holidaymakers a fortune.

  15. Bluetooth Security Bluetooth Technology Faces Security Threats: Unfortunately ,Bluetooth is like all communication technologies are facing the issue of privacy and identity theft ,but the good news is that most of the recent Bluetooth security scares, like most scares, are over-dramatized and blown out of proportion. The truth is, these issues are easily combatable, and various measures are already in place to provide for the secure use of Bluetooth technology.

  16. The future of Bluetooth: Bluetooth has a good future ahead because it meets a basic need of connectivity in close proximity, is the result of initiatives of nine leading communications and computer industry vendors including companies like 3-COM, Ericsson, Lucent, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Nokia, Toshiba etc. Since the formation of the original group, more than 1800 manufacturers worldwide have joined the initiative worldwide. According to one market research report, Bluetooth technology is expected to be built into over 100 millions devices in the coming years.
