What is LCA and who is it suitable for? • Two year alternative practical orientated Leaving Certificate programme. • Project or Task based where work is continually assessed over the two years. • Students who want to enter the workplace/ apprenticeship as soon as possible after completing the LC.

  3. LCA V’S Traditional LC LCA Traditional LC LCVP work experience one week a year Academic/points orientated LC exam counts for majority of marks Bigger classes Irish compulsory for 2 yrs • Work Experience one day a week. 4 placements in 2 yrs. • Practical/ project work • Continuous assessment • Small class sizes more one to one tuition • Irish completed in one yr

  4. POINTS TO L.C. • 6 LC subjects to Ordinary level = 30 points 6 D3 =30 Points. V.Limited in what a student can do with these results. • LCA provides more opportunities to experience the world of work and what career path to follow.

  5. How is LCA different from the Traditional Leaving Cert? • Work Experience ( one day a week) • Curriculum Offered • Assessment…..Continuous assessment/ Credit based on 90% attendance and satisfactory completion of modules.

  6. Curriculum Offered • In Ramsgrange CS a variety of subjects are offered under the following headings: • Vocational Preparation ( English and Communications, Jobsearch, Guidance) • Vocational Education ( Mathematical Applications, IT, Hotel, Catering and Tourism, Craft and Design, Horticulture) • General Education ( Art, Gaeilge(Yr 1),French (Yr 2), Social Education,Leisure and Recreation)

  7. How is LCA assessed? • A maximum of 200 Credits are awarded over two years. • 62 Credits (Continuous Assessment) • 90% attendance in all subjects. • 70 Credits for seven student Tasks • 68 Credits for Final Exam in June of Yr 2

  8. Final results • Pass 120- 139 credits 60-69% • Merit 140-169 credits 70-84% • Distinction 170-200 Credits 85-100% • LCA students in RCS are encouraged to aim for a Distinction grade.

  9. Can a LCA student go on to further education and training? • Yes. The Leaving Certificate Applied is accepted for most PLC courses. • Completion of these courses allows students to progress to Institutes of Technology. • Apprenticeships • Defence Forces • World of Work

  10. How to apply for LCA? • Senior cycle choice form returned by agreed date to school office • LCA application form returned by agreed date to Ms.Cullinane • Interview with Ms.Cullinane, Ms Culleton, Ms.L.Walsh and Ms.Harris • Code of behaviour from now until June..Only students who we feel will benefit most from the course will be considered..12 places available. • Unsuccessful applicants may appeal to BOM
