  1. ISEG HV power supplies for NA62 R. Fantechi 6/4/2011

  2. Facts • Iseg approach triggered by Large Angle Vetoes • Reasonablesolutiontobeusedinsteadof the old OPAL distributors • Not reliable • No current measurement • No capability for single channel on/off • Painful integration in the NA62 DCS • Specific components selected • Crate ISEG ECH 238_1200W • 8 slots, CANbus control • HV module EDS 20 130n_504 • 32 channel, 1 crate slot, CANbus control via backplane • 0-3KV, 500 mA/channel, floating ground • Already used at CERN

  3. DCS compatibility • Thanks to Mateusz Lehmann (ALICE) • I got the confirmation from Iseg that EDS 20 130n_504 and  ECH 238_1200W  are compatible with fw component. Below few comments about these crates : • “ • The ECH 238_1200W is equipped with another CAN-controller than the old Crates. But, to be compatible with older systems, these controllers also are "downwards-compatible". That means, via a software switch, the units can be switched into the "old" operating mode of the ECH 238 Crates (same Items, same commands....). Also, if they are not switched into the old operating mode, they can be controlled with the same control software like the old ones, because new commands are only added, not replacing old ones. (Currently I am not sure which new commands are implemented, because the system is quite new) • “ • Difference between Iset and Itrip: • “ • Iset and Itrip are different commands depending on the type of module. • For example the EHS F6 60 units have an Iset. If KillEnable is disabled, Iset means the unit shall limit the output current at this value. So if this current value is reached, the unit is switching into current control mode and the voltage is following the current. If KillEnable is enabled and Iset is set, the channel will shut down as soon as this current value is reached. • The Distribution modules of EDS series (like EDS 20 130 or EDS 20 025) are not equipped with a current control. So in these modules there can only a value of current be set for the shutdown. This is Itrip. So if Itrip is reached, the channel will shut down and not limit the output current. • “

  4. Offers - 1 • Several interactions with ISEG • First ofall a LAV-onlyenquiry • What is needed + 1 crate and 10 boards as spares • The first offer has an error (prices swapped): use the actual prices

  5. Offers - 2 • Interest for the same hardware by MUV, SAV, CEDAR • Offer for more objects • Some more uncertainty about delivery as some parts come from Japan • A first delivery of 3crates/24modules after 14-16 weeks, the rest after one month

  6. Offers - 3 • Additional request for a split order • Buy three full crates first • Make extensive tests on a real case • Then buy the rest • In this case only 8% rebate for the first order, then 16%. • Additional 7.5 K€ • Then better to order all the modules with a split delivery. • Questions about the order • To NA62 Steering Committee: source of funding and subdivision • We know already that the LAV part is covered by the insurance compensation for the 2008 flood • To CERN administration: the procedure for the order • Need a tender, pass through committees, could Epool be involved, etc.

  7. Maintenance contracts • Hardware and software contracts being discussed • EP Pool for the hardware • They will prepare a list of all material used at CERN • Form the basis of discussion with ISEG • All the hardware present at CERN will be included • The future NA62 hw will be included • Experiment contribution proportional to the installed hw base • Fixed fee for a repair of a module • 2 year warranty for the purchased modules • Validity of the contract (as with Wiener and CAEN) up to end 2019 • EN/ICE for the software • Takes over the responsibility of OPC server from ALICE when the contract will be activated • Contract being drafted • 3 levels of support • Description of the problem and remote reproduction analysis at ISEG site • Remote access to CERN by an ISEG engineer • A visit of an ISEG engineer at CERN (not covered by the contract)
