  3. Microarray data: overview • Data = thousands of different coloured dots • Colour intensity = number • EXAMPLE: • Four genes • Arbitrary light units • Ratio of red to green (red/green)

  4. Microarray data: analysis • Thousands of genes + 10s, 100s of samples = DATA • Need to use specialized software • Two options: same destination, different style * Free software (R/Bioconductor) * Commercial software (Partek/Genespring £££ / $$$
