Ross School Senior ProjectThe Wanderers of the Desert: Nomadic Bedouin Culture Lorcan Jowers
Goals.. • None specific to begin with, only had in mind my interest in cultures. • Soon to realize the importance of the projects subject, the Bedouin. • Global awareness, the vanishing of traditional cultures.
The Project.. • Three Different Products- • The Music: • The Oud and the Rabab • Research on genres • The Research Essay: • Research on aspects of the desert nomads life • The Tent: • Accurate to design and tradition • Expose the audience to how these people lived • Museum exhibit-like display, Bedouin culture visually embedded into the product
Challenges and Discoveries • Find a fabric that matched goat’s hair characteristics • Sewing the fabrics together • Becoming familiar with the music • Discovered further interest in history and cultures, and a desire to continue research through anthropological studies. • Discovered how difficult it was to link three products together in order to complete the installation.
Skills and Knowledge Acquired • Understanding the importance of further research on the disappearing traditional cultures of the world. • Acquired the skill to stick to strict deadlines and dedicate myself to a topic. • Acquired the ability to sew, through which I learned patience. • Time Management
I Thank.. • Kimble Humiston • Ken Dorph • My Mom and Dad • Devon Parkes • Jim Knowlan • The Ross School
